Budget airlines keep upselling seats. For 2–3 hour flights, do you pay for a specific seat or just take the random assignment?

If I’m traveling with a partner, I pay for seats so we’re together. Solo? I usually roll the dice unless it’s a red‑eye.

I only pay if it’s a super full flight or I need aisle for legroom. Otherwise I save the money for food at the destination.

Some carriers assign middle seats by default and charge for aisle/window. For longer flights, that extra $10–15 is worth it.

I always check in the second it opens and usually get an okay seat for free. It’s a small hack that works most of the time.
