I'm on my 3rd month in Mexico City working remotely. Do I really need to leave after 180 days or can I extend at immigration? Anyone have experience with this?

You get 180 days total per visit. Extensions are possible at INM office but not guaranteed.

Safer to do a border run to reset. San Diego is an easy option from CDMX.

Some people extend, some border hop. The temporary resident visa is the proper long-term solution.

I extended once without issues but YMMV. Have proof of funds and accommodation.
