Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Journey

This is the perfect trip for anyone who wants a relaxed day on the Hauraki Gulf. No previous kayaking experience necessary. Browns Island, named Motukorea (island of the pied oystercatcher bird) is one of the best preserved volcanoes in the Auckland Volcanic Field. Private boats and kayaks are the only means of access to this untouched island. On arriving at Browns Island, you will be given the chance to walk to the summit, which will give you an opportunity to experience spectacular views and the island's fascinating history. There are three pa sites on the island (Maori fortified village), with the largest occupying the slopes of the main scoria cone. Light refreshments are provided on the island before you head back to the sheltered waters from where you started. FREE Auckland City Center pick up and drop off available on request.

Getting Around Auckland

Auckland Airport is well-connected to the city. The most convenient public transport is the AirportLink bus, which connects to trains at Puhinui Station for a direct line to Britomart in the CBD. Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber and Ola are readily available and take approximately 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. For those preferring a dedicated service, the SkyDrive express bus runs between the airport and SkyCity in the city center. Car rentals are also available at the terminal if you plan to explore regional areas like the Waitakere Ranges.

Does anyone know if immigration is fast at this airport during morning hours? We only have a 4 hour layover and want to see the main square...

Just did this exact layover last week! A few tips: definitely take the express train instead of cab, it saves about 45 mins. Also make sure...

Make Every Minute Count

Managing Your Layover Time

For short layovers (2-4 hours), stay within the airport or visit the nearby Butterfly Creek and Treasure Island Adventure Golf. For medium layovers (4-8 hours), you have enough time to take a shuttle or taxi to the Auckland CBD to see the Sky Tower, enjoy a meal at the Viaduct Harbour, or hike Mount Eden. For long layovers (8+ hours), you can fully immerse yourself in the city, take a ferry to Devonport, visit the Auckland Museum, or even take a quick trip to the Waiheke Island vineyards if your schedule allows for at least a 5-hour window in the city.
