Layover Guide

Curacao

A layover in Curacao is more than just a wait; it’s an invitation to experience the vibrant colors and Dutch-Caribbean charm of this unique island. Whether you are arriving at Curacao International Airport (CUR), also known as Hato International Airport, or departing for destinations across the Americas and Europe, the airport’s location on the northern coast makes it surprisingly easy to explore. Much like a London Layover Guide or a Singapore Layover Guide, timing is everything here. Before you step out, you can track your Curacao flight path on Borderly to ensure you have the most up-to-date arrival and departure data. From the pastel-colored Handelskade waterfront to the ancient limestone formations of the Hato Caves located right next to the airport, a CUR stopover offers a tropical escape that feels worlds away from a standard terminal experience.

Getting Around Curacao

The most efficient way to navigate during a layover is by taxi. Taxis are regulated but not metered; always confirm the price before departing (Airport to Willemstad is usually ~$35 USD). For those planning a longer stay, car rentals are available at the airport. Public 'Konvoi' buses run to major areas, but schedules can be irregular for tight layovers. Find flights to Curacao (CUR) to see the most frequent arrival times for easier connections. Ride-sharing like Uber/Lyft is not currently available on the island, so stick to official airport taxis.

Does anyone know if immigration is fast at this airport during morning hours? We only have a 4 hour layover and want to see the main square...

Just did this exact layover last week! A few tips: definitely take the express train instead of cab, it saves about 45 mins. Also make sure...

Make Every Minute Count

Maximizing Your Time in Curacao

Curacao is a relatively small island, but traffic in and out of Willemstad can peak between 7:30-9:00 AM and 4:30-6:00 PM. If your layover falls during these windows, add 20 minutes to your travel time. For any stay under 4 hours, we recommend staying at the airport or visiting the Hato Caves. For 6+ hours, a trip to the city is highly feasible. Always allow 2 hours for return check-in and security at CUR, as lines can fluctuate depending on the number of arriving European wide-body flights.
