Phoenix Scenic Biplane Flight with Open-Cockpit Aerial Views

Limited time offer, lowest price in Arizona! Welcome to a flight experience for beginners in a training biplane from WWII. You will be exposed to flying in an open cockpit biplane over the McDowall Mountains. The Stearman biplane was used 80 years ago to teach the aviation cadets of WWII, so you will be learning in an authentic piece of history. There are only 2 seats in the plane, one for you and one for me. We'll start with a preflight inspection followed by an explanation of the radios and controls. We can fly smooth and level, or we can add in some more energetic maneuvers for those that desire a more thrilling experience. You will be invited to take the controls as part of the experience. From engine start to return will take approximately 30 minutes although the entire experience last about 1.5 hours. This is a unique experience where you will be exposed to the same type of training that the "Greatest Generation" did during WWII. It's like traveling back in time nearly 80 years

Getting Around During Your Layover

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is exceptionally well-connected. The free PHX Sky Train operates 24/7, connecting all terminals to the Valley Metro Rail at the 44th St/Washington station. The light rail provides a budget-friendly way to reach Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa. For faster travel, taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are readily available at designated pick-up zones outside each terminal. Most major car rental agencies are located at the consolidated Rental Car Center, accessible via a dedicated shuttle.

Good to Know

Practical Tips for Phoenix Layovers

01

Stay hydrated; the desert climate is extremely dry, especially if you step outside.

02

Use the free PHX Sky Train to move between terminals and the light rail station.

03

Allow at least 2 hours for security re-entry if you leave the airport during peak travel times.

04

Check out the Phoenix Airport Museum exhibits located throughout the terminals.

05

If you have a night layover, Downtown Phoenix and Old Town Scottsdale offer the best nightlife.

06

Sunscreen is a must, even for a short walk outside in the Arizona sun.

07

Luggage storage isn't available inside the terminals, but third-party services nearby can assist.

08

Phoenix experiences 'Monsoon Season' in late summer; check for sudden weather delays.

Does anyone know if immigration is fast at this airport during morning hours? We only have a 4 hour layover and want to see the main square...

Just did this exact layover last week! A few tips: definitely take the express train instead of cab, it saves about 45 mins. Also make sure...

Make Every Minute Count

Managing Your Layover Time

With 2-4 hours, stay within the airport. Phoenix Airport (PHX) offers great local food like Blanco Tacos + Tequila and various art installations. For a 4-8 hour layover, take the Sky Train and Light Rail to Downtown Phoenix or Papago Park. This gives you enough time for a meal and one major attraction. If you have 8+ hours, consider renting a car or taking an Uber to Old Town Scottsdale for high-end shopping and galleries, or visit the Desert Botanical Garden for a deeper dive into the local environment.
